If playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting I have a guitar with an American walnut top and trying to achieve a warm brown color as an oiled walnut should have. I have attempted an oil finish with non tinted Watco Danish oil and while this appears nice with a near light source on the wood it appears to have little darkening effect with a light source at a distance. Our Danish Oil is based on Tung Oil, and is a penetrating oil which will ‘feed’ and protect wood. Varnished, shellaced, lacquered or heavily stained wood will usually present a surface barrier to absorption of the Danish Oil, and will need to be removed as necessary with a proprietary paint stripper. Meet the Watco 65351 Danish Oil Wood Finish, Black Walnut; it’s among the best finish for walnut that you can find in the market today. The formula is appropriate for all indoor ventures, including bare, sanded, or stripped surfaces.

I finished it with just a hand-rubbed tung oil varnish, applying 8 coats to protect the top surface while giving the walnut a gorgeous, natural warm glow, too. I've been using Watco Danish oil for many years. I especially like it to make grain & color "pop" in walnut. It's quite useful for use with American Wormy Chestnut I often work in as it's penetration is helpful with a wood that's old,dry and often riddled with faults.

Tung oil by itself will almost never dry. Se hela listan på homedepot.com The solid walnut top, above, is a slightly different story. I finished it with just a hand-rubbed tung oil varnish, applying 8 coats to protect the top surface while giving the walnut a gorgeous, natural warm glow, too. same with tru oil; you can also mix japan drier. Thing is japan drier smells awful and only requires a few drops to a small capful if you are using a small bottle. so remember: Se hela listan på woodworking.sustainlife.org For the second coat, to really flatten the surface and leave a super-professional look, apply a slurry coat. To do this, use 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper, dip it in the Danish oil, and rub the oil onto the wood in circular motions. While applying, if it starts to become tacky just put more oil on the sand paper. So, the Danish oil finish dries out and forms a hard surface.
I've done walnut oil and tung oil and Odie's oil before, but never tried. Aug 13, 2014 The next day, I decided to danish oil it using Watco Danish oil in Dark Walnut. This was a mess.

Today I go onsite, and there is a note from the client that the tops need to be stained darker. They are finished with a single application of danish oil (1/3 BLO,1/3 poly, 1/3 thinner). This is the finish they chose and approved. I've got a 12 inch tall ambrosia maple HF that I want to put an oil finish on.
I ran into a bind on one project with walnut and ended up using some scrap that was slightly lighter-colored. Some dark walnut danish oil on those pieces darkened it just enough to match. I did some test pieces on walnut, using BLO followed by arm-r-seal on one, and just arm-r-seal on the other. Yesterday I finished some solid walnut bartops for a client. Today I go onsite, and there is a note from the client that the tops need to be stained darker. They are finished with a single application of danish oil (1/3 BLO,1/3 poly, 1/3 thinner).

It really is not very good for exterior use. I do however like the watco stains. They are the finest stains I have ever used. You do however have to put a finish over them. I disagree with eyemissum about the tung oil, but I understand what he ran into. Tung oil by itself will almost never dry.
